What to Eat Less of?

  • Anything white (white rice, white flour, white pasta etc). The color indicates a high degree of refinement and processing, with removal of fiber and nutrients.
  • All bakery items (pies, cakes, pastries and biscuits)
  • All fried items (donuts, chips etc)
  • Fatty meats (mince, sausages, all processed meats, chicken thigh, fatty cuts of steak)
  • Sugar (candies, chocolates, soft drinks, reconstituted fruit juices)
  • Alcohol (beer, cider, wine, spirits)

What to Eat More of?

  • Complex carbohydrates & healthy grains (whole meal bread and pasta, brown rice, quinoa, oats, rye, buckwheat, spelt)
  • Legumes (beans, lentils, peas)
  • Fresh vegetables (e.g asparagus, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprout, onion, parsnip, tomato, corn, capsicum, carrot, leafy greens such as spinach, kale, lettuce and bok choy. aim for 5+ servings daily, organic if possible.)
  • Fresh fruit (apple, apricot, banana, cherry, figs, goji berry, mangosteen, lemon, lime, grapefruit, kiwi fruit, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry. Choose seasonal and organic if possible.)
  • Nuts (cashew, almond, walnut, pistachio, pecan, macadamia. limit to Healthy fats (avocado, cold pressed virgin olive oil)

Keep yourself active with these exercises

Brisk walk: Taking a walk in your garden is always effective

Squats: Stand tall with your feet shoulder-width apart and lower your hips (almost like you’re sitting in a chair). As you bend your knees, your thighs will be parallel with the floor, make sure that your knees don’t go beyond your toes and keep your chest up and look straight ahead. Stand back up to start position and repeat.

Triceps Push-Ups: Place your hands on the floor and keep them under your shoulders. Holding your body straight, bend your elbows close to you body. Lower your chest between your hands and push back up into the starting position.

Walking Lunge: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and place your arms to the side. Step forward with your right foot and lower your left knee towards the floor. Bend your knees about 90 degrees. Ensure your right knee stays over your right ankle and don’t let your knee go past your toes. Step up to balance on your right foot and switch feet.
